UNION COLLEGE USES OMNICHARGE MOBILE CHARGING PRODUCTS FOR INTERNATIONAL RESCUE AND RELIEF PROGRAM

Union College offers a unique Bachelor of Science degree in International Rescue and Relief, designed for adventurous students who aim to serve humanity through disaster and humanitarian relief efforts. The program combines rescue and survival skills, emergency medical care, humanitarian relief, public health, disaster management, and multicultural service training. Graduates from this program pursue careers in various fields, including emergency management, public safety, the medical field, and global development.

The Challenge

As part of the International Rescue and Relief program, students and faculty at Union College engage in real-world disaster response training and deployment, both nationally and internationally. Often, these deployments take place in remote and challenging environments, lacking essential infrastructure such as running water and electricity. The need for reliable and portable power solutions to keep communication, essential equipment, and electronic devices charged during these operations is critical.

The Solution

Union College found a powerful and versatile solution in

These charging products offer a range of features, including high-wattage AC and DC ports, fast-charging USB and USB-C ports, adjustable voltage, and 11 layers of power protection systems, making them ideal for powering various devices simultaneously in remote, off-grid situations.

Implementation

Union College acquired multiple Omnicharge products to address their power needs during rescue training and international relief deployments. Andrew Saunders, Program Director and Associate Professor of International Rescue and Relief, elaborated on their use of Omnicharge products:

“We have multiple Omni Ultimates, Omni 20+’s and an Omni Power Station. So we’ll use the Omnicharge chargers in varying capacities during the rescue training.”

Andrew further explained that the Omni Power Station provides a vital mobile power component to their technical rescue trailer - a facility also outfitted with 800W of solar panels and 200 amps of lithium iron phosphate batteries. This combination efficiently powers equipment, computers, and communication devices during disaster response operations, both in and away from the trailer.

Results

The implementation of Omnicharge products provided Union College with reliable and portable power solutions for their disaster response and humanitarian missions. Andrew Saunders emphasized their practicality during a Florida response for Hurricane Ian:

“With the Omnicharges, we can swap out chargers and put the next one on the dock and keep charging on our trailer with the solar and everything. And it’s been really great for us as far as being mobile and keeping power.”

The Omnicharge chargers ensured continuous operations, facilitated education in remote areas, maintained connectivity even when cell towers were down, and enhanced command and coordination during disaster responses. When conducting on site training in locations like Malawi, Africa:

“With the Omnicharges we were still able to keep up with courses during power outages. We were able to plug our equipment into the Omnicharges and still run our StarLink modems, our cameras, our drones, computers, projectors, all that stuff running. I think last year we went nine days without power.“
